when i was in elementary school
they had a contest
they were introducing recycling at the school
and placing recycling bins in each classroom
they wanted the kids to design a logo to put on the bins
the winner would have their design placed around the school
and win some prize which was apparently not memorable
i loved comic books at that age
and thought i wanted to be a penciller when i grew up
but my fine motor skills have always been bottom quartile
i kind of knew that even then
but i thought i'd take a shot
so i just looked at that symbol ♻️
and drew three dolphins in sort of the same shape
oh, i neglected to mention that, dolphins were our school mascot
we were the dolphins
the idea was so obvious to me, that i was sure that every design would be almost the same
and that, like, one of the older kids
who could actually draw well
would win it on a design just like mine
i wouldn't be telling the story if i didn't win

the adults thought the design needed to actually succeed as a logo
showing people where to put things
so the runner-up was the only kid who came up with anything close to my design
